Hello to all on this website from a newbie. I am a local historian and author interested in Celtic, Roman and mediaeval coins and artefacts, as well as World War Two aviation in Hertfordshire. I have just been given two photographs taken at Brent Pelham on 23rd January 1944 showing an American P-38J aircraft that has crashed It was coded-10-LO 42-67777 and came from the 55 FG, 38FS at Nuthampstead. Whilst on a training flight at 14.24 hrs 2/Lt Henry J Tiedemann Jr experienced a fire in the Left engine - smoke then entered cockpit. He attempted to bale out, but was too low - killed. Buried at Madingley cemetery near Cambridge. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers this incident and could pinpoint the location of the crash. Admittedly it may be a mile or so from Brent Pelham as the Americans may simply have listed the incident using the nearest location. I can be located on
