FURNEUX PELHAM-POST OFFICE IN THE 50'S 4 Years, 9 Months ago
I am researching my Bayford history, all my father's
family from 1752 have originated in Furneux or close
by. As a very young child I can recall visiting a
great aunt, known to us as Pat, although I must admit
there is no-one on the family tree with that name.
I believe she was postmistress in Furneux......if there is anyone who can help me with this information I would be grateful. DEE

Sorry I can not help you with Pat, but my Bayford family ran the post office in the early 1900s and 1800s. Bayford family also lived next door in Wright's cottage. Charles Bayford and his wife Harriet Wright. (1840 -50s). Let me know if I can be of any help with Bayford information. I am currently looking for details on Ralph Bayford (my g'parents) who married Rachel Wootton 9 November 1772.

Thank you for your reply Genia, it would appear that you and I are related, albeit distantly. My grandparents x 5 are also Ralph and Rachel, unfortunately I am unable to reach beyond 1752. I am keen to discover Ralph's siblings and ofco9urse his parents. I have browsed this site as a new member and have read with great interest the exchanges between the Bayfords. If I am correct in my findings your grandfather Thomas William, and my immediate grandfather
Peter James were brothers!
Regarding the post office, I can only think that gerat aunt Pat had another name which wasn't used very much.
I've spent many a mind boggling, eye goggling day at the Hertfordshire Archives, and staggerede away with a note-book full of facts.
Hope to hear from you again....Dee

Hi Doreen

Yes you are correct Thomas William had brothers Charles William, Alfred G, Peter James and Albert also 2 sisters Adela and Leila.

I think Ralph's parents were John and Sarah Archer, (married in Little Munden) but I am trying to look for evidence.

I plan to visit the library again in August, so hopefully will find what we are looking for.

I have been also emailing 2 other cousins who are related through William and Hannah.

We will have to arrange a meeting !!

Best wishes

Genia

Doreen

No I did not receive your last email. I have today had access to your tree from Wendy through genesreunited.

Yes we are related. First Cousins (I think) but not sure how many times removed - not good at working that one out. You are a year older than me and our children are about the same age. However in generation levels, I am at the same level as Wendy and your children. This is through the difference in ages of Thomas and Ellen's childred, the generations slip. If you understand my meaning.

Please ask Wendy to send me your email through Genes, as it is private correspondence and we can talk more directly.

Regards

Genia
