Hi I’m looking for anything on my g.grandfather James Brett, I think he may have originally come from Brent Pelham c1853-1858, his fathers name was George I believe.

I have a James Brett, born c1867 Brent Pelham with a father called George, born c 1835 Brent Pelham. His mother was Eliza Rule, born c1845 Brent Pelham. James was one of seven children, all born in Brent Pelham - including one set of male twins. Let me know if you think this might be the same man.

Since found out that James was born in 1853 to Elizabeth Brett, formerly Oates, the widow of Thomas Brett, who died in 1849 - no fathers name on birth certificate – I suspect its virtually impossible to find out who James’ father was now unfortunately.

I don't come on this board very often so have only just seen your last post. I have Thomas Brett, Elizabeth Oates and their six children in my tree. Thomas is a distant ancestor (he was killed in a tragic accident in a gravel pit). I had no idea that Elizabeth went on to have more children. If I do ever find out anything about her after Thomas's death I will let you know.

Hi Lyndsey,
Elizabeth Oates re-married in 1854 to Benjamin Prior and had a son with him named Richard in around 1856.
my g.grandfather James Henry was born to Elizabeth in 1853 - between marriages as such. As he retained the name Brett I think its unlikely that Benjamin Prior is his father.
