Hi Denise,
My name is Lesley and I am Sidney Bailey's great grandaughter who lived in Brent Pelham at the Causeway until 1986 when he died aged 85. He was married to Elenor Bailey (nee Clarke). I think we originated from Stocking Pelham. Sidney's Mother and Father were Kate Stone and Arthur Bailey. They had 5 children.
Kate was still living in Pelham in the 1960's and lived in one of the thatched cottages oppersite the Black Horse Public House which is next door to the blacksmiths house. The thatched cottage is now one house. This cottage when Kate lived there was a farm labourers cottage.
I don't know if this is of any help or if we are even related this is just what my mum can remember.

Well thank you Lesley. I've just checked through Ancestry.co.uk and the I.G.I. and, believe it or not, we are related. Your 5xGt Grandfather was John Bailey, born in Essex c1780 and married Maria Halloway c1799 at Brent Pelham. He is my 3xGt Grandfather. His son John (my relation) had a brother called James, from who you are descended. James was the father of George Bailey, and George Bailey was Arthur's father. So there you have it. What a surprise.
I have recently started up a website for the BAILEYSFROMFURNEUXPELHAM which you can join by invitation only. If you are interested in viewing and joining the site, which I still have work to do on, although I have completed the Baileys as far as I can, then if you would like to let me have your email address by posting on this site, then I will send you an invitation.
I bet this will be a surprise for you, and I look forward to your reply.
With best wishes
Denise

Family History-BAILEY/BAYFORD 6 Years ago

/NOTTAGE/BEANS/HALL..What a wonderful site. I wonder if anyone can help. I am a Bailey descendant and am researching my family history. I am currently setting up a website for the BAILEYSFROMFURNEUXPELHAM and would like to fill in any missing gaps. Included amongst my family are:
Grandfather SAMUEL BAILEY c1872 born Furneux Pelham. SAMUEL had four sisters registered in the 1881 census.... Anna, Louisa, Ellen and Mary. I have traced all of them except Mary c1870, so if there is anyone in the area who knows anything about Mary, that would be a great help.... whether she married, had children, etc.
Great Grandfather JOHN BAILEY c1837 born Furneux Pelham married MARTHA BAYFORD c1837 born Little Hadham. MARTHA was the illegitimate child of SUSAN BAYFORD C1816 and HENRY NOTTAGE (still trying to work out which one!) - just know he was a Servant on her birth certificate. SUSAN BAYFORD was, I believe the daughter of WILLIAM and ANN (nee Martin) BAYFORD of Little Hadham.
Gt Gt Grandfather JOHN BAILEY c1802 born Brent Pelham married ELIZABETH BEANS, had three children including John, then married SARAH ? C1819 born Furneux Pelham.
Gt Gt Gt Grandfather JOHN BAILEY c1766 born Brent Pelham married MARIA HALLOWAY c1776 Born Brent Pelham.
There were lots of brother and sisters along the way and I would love to make contact with any of their descendants.
ALSO, and this is a big ? for me. One of Samuel's sister's grandchildren has given me a photo from her family's collection, of that lovely house which used to incorporate the Blacksmiths cottage and which can be found in the Gallery on this site. She tells me the Baileys lived there at one time... not sure when, but if anyone can help with that also, I would be so grateful. Perhaps someone knows who now lives there and it may be possible to check the previous owners, or maybe it was once used for farm labourers. Other addresses I have for the BAILEYS from the censuses include White Barnes and Causeway. I could go on and on..... lots of questions, but if ANYONE living in the Pelhams can help me in any way with myu research, I'd love to hear from you.
Living in hope.....................
I live in Exeter, Devon, but hope to get to visit the area one day. In the meantime....
Best Wishes to you all
Denise

Bayford Family.
I know a Bayford who was born in Furneux Pelham and now lives in Bishop's Stortford. He is in his 80's now but I am sure he would be able to help if this is of interest.

That sounds great. How can I contact him, or can you find out some family names of his ancestors so I can see if there is a link between us somewhere?
Thanks, and look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Denise. Hope you are still checking this message board. Greetings from Canada!! Possiblly some of the ansestors you have mentioned belong to us. I have an extensive amount of info on the Bayford's, back to 1630. I have not filled in a whole lot of rabbit trails unless they were of my direct line. I've not done much on the geneology for a couple of years. A friend of my parents who was just visiting here from England mentioned this website. He said that my husband (Lin Bayford) and his cousin (Ray Clarke) are in a School Photo on this website: "School Concert 1959". Ray just called me as said someone was looking for some Bayford, so here I am. I'll go through my info and see if I can help. I also have extensive information on the Whyman family from Clavering back to 1722 in anyone is interested.
I'll be in touch. Lorraine Bayford, Prince George, B.C. Canada
