Female Bullfinch
The Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) is a very shy bird in the Pelhams preferring to hide in hedgerow and shrubs no higher that 10-12 feet.

I have yet to get a clear photo of the male in his striking brick-red, black and white colours.  Both the male and the females have a bright white rump seen clearly when flying away from you.  The song is a very gentle fluty single note which they call repeatedly to each other.  Sometime you will hear a quiet strange almost electronic sound.  Both male and female have a thick short but stout beak which they use to strip bushes quickly (even flower heads).
